What I Wore: Girls Night Out

Happy Hump Day!

Today I’m throwing it back to an outfit I wore just before Christmas. It was all going on over the festive period so it completely slipped my mind to write up the posts to go along with the photographs that were taken. Not wanting to discard them into the ‘unused’ folder, I thought you might find some style inspo with this outfit choice.

Winter OOTD

SAM_0123

Today is supposed to be Blue Monday – the ‘most depressing day of the year’.

I’m not sure what studies have proved this to be the case each year, but for me it was just another day. I felt pretty upbeat and happy and the sun was out – so I thought in between chores I would head out of the house and go for a brisk walk around the park, enjoying the very cold sunshine.

This is my go-to outfit on those days where I don’t have much planned and just want to feel warm and comfortable. I actually spent longer deciding what makeup to put on than I did with what to wear…

I’ve been trying out a couple MUA makeup palettes over the weekend so will let you know my thoughts in Wednesday’s post! Today I used 3 shades from the ‘Heaven and Earth’ palette, and tried on a new nude MUA lipstick (will post a review on this soon), which looks pout perfect with Tanya Burr’s lipgloss in ‘Lunch Date’.

I haven’t worn this bag since late last summer but it makes me feel so glam – and don’t you think it’s a great dupe for the Chanel bag?

(Of course I put on my black coat before I went for the walk – it’s SO chilly!)

OOTD | My Birthday

Processed with VSCOcam with f2 preset

Yesterday I celebrated another Twenty-something birthday, and it didn’t disappoint.

Post-Uni I haven’t been too bothered about ‘partying hard’ and making a big song and dance about turning another year older. In fact, I prefer to keep my celebrations pretty low-key and just spend it with close friends and family. The only part that made it any different this year was my attitude.

For the first birthday in a while I felt content, and this was due to not over thinking how the day would turn out, no negativity – and it ended up to be one of my favourite birthday’s ever. A positive mind is so powerful and it’s going to play a huge part in being happier in 2015 (my New Year’s resolution).

I want to do a separate birthday post on what I did and who I spent it with, as I have round two of my celebrations happening on Friday, but here is what I wore yesterday day to night.

It’s still cold here in the UK so I wanted to feel comfortable and cosy but still feel stylish. I put on a new Topshop sweater, which is a firm fave in my wardrobe now, paired with my favourite skirt, tights and boots combo and I was set. This pretty pale pink coat is perfect for this winter weather, making a change from my black coat – I ‘borrowed’ it from my mum a few weeks ago and I’ve worn it on every occasion since. Hopefully she’s not missing it too much….

When the weather is so chilly outside I feel less inclined to dress up, I like to feel warm and will happily choose comfort over style (although I try to do both). I didn’t have an outfit pre-planned for my meal with the girls but knew I could put something together last minute. After enjoying a long and relaxing bath I re-applied my makeup, and with limited amount of time I threw on my clothes and a few new accessories I had for my birthday before leaving the house (slightly later than planned, as always). I wore the same skirt and tights combo that I wore in the day and paired it with my new dusky pink crop top that I picked up in the sale from Topshop. I couldn’t resist buying it when I saw it was only £10, so I also bought it in black which I wore out for NYE. I think the small gap between the top and skirt showing off the waist is fun and flirty for an evening with friends, what do you think?

New Year’s Eve: Party Ready

SAM_9980

Another year is almost over, and it’s that time again to put on your favourite frock and see in 2015 in style!

Every woman has that dress that makes her feel special and glamorous. Whether it’s an LBD or a special sequin number that only comes out once a year, I think it’s important to own a dress that makes you feel your best and acts as an instant mood booster!

Mine is this gorgeous navy number from Topshop, bought last Christmas. When you have curves like mine, body-con dresses can go two ways – it will either fit your figure like a glove and make you look bootylicous, or your figure will look totally out of proportion and prove very unflattering.

Luckily this dress is the right length and style to flatter my body, still showing off my small waist. I’m not usually a fan of the suede material but fell in love with this the moment I tried it on in the Topshop changing rooms. Not too long and not too short, it’s my favourite length skirt to wear.

I wore it two or three times over the Christmas period last year, here is how I styled them.

I’m still unsure how I plan to accessorise the dress this year, so have kept it to two options.

This pretty floral necklace from H&M enhances the femininity of the dress, it makes a statement and brightens up the look. I would probably pair this with black tights, black heels and my favourite silver and gold bracelet to keep it simple.

This gold bar necklace from H&M is a little more subtle and contrasts well with the navy blue tones. I usually opt for this piece when I wear this dress out so I know it’s a safe bet to choose, and I have plenty of gold jewellery that will work well with this choice.

Black Friday OOTD

photo 1 (3)

I have been searching high and low for the perfect black cape/poncho ever since I saw this one on Pinterest – and this week I found something similar on the high street!

Next have created this beautiful black knit style poncho (also available in other colours) and will set you back just £36. I feel so cosy in it and looks great worn with leggings, jeans, dresses… this piece will carry you through many cold Winter days to the cooler Spring weather.

The weather here in the UK at the moment is cold but there has been bright sunshine, so choosing something to wear that won’t leave you feeling like a Sweaty Betty but will keep you warm when the sun disappears can be difficult. I added a big hat for a bit of Friday glam and a bright clutch bag that will hold my essentials (a shoulder bag wearing a cape is a bit of a no-no).
