The Review: Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream

photo

The hype around the BB cream has been huge over the past few months, and at first glance I thought it was just another term for tinted moisturizer. I’m not one for judging a product before trying it though, so I popped into my local drugstore (Boots) and asked one of the lovely customer assistants for advice.

She really bigged up Maybelline’s Dream Fresh BB Cream, and followed up the great review with showing me colour samples – advising me to purchase the ‘medium’ shade as the ‘light’ wouldn’t give me any colour to my skin (which my pale skin requires).

The product claims to do 8 things:

  • Blur imperfections
  • Brightens the skin
  • Evens the skin tone
  • Smooths
  • Hydrates
  • Enhances
  • Protects with SPF 30
  • No oils or heavy ingredients

As you can see above (using the back of my hand) this beauty balm gives great coverage but still feels light on the skin. It’s also a great primer, acting as a moisturizer and giving a great base for your foundation to be applied onto (this is how I usually wear it). Sometimes if I’m only heading out to the gym or round to the local shop I like to apply it by itself and just use concealer to cover any blemishes that the BB cream hasn’t covered, a spot of mascara and I’m done!

This is the first BB cream I have tested, so I’m no expert nor can I say this is worth the £7.99 price tag – I do like the formula of this Maybelline product. It does not cake up and a small amount does go far so no need to use too much (remember, this is meant to act like a tinted moisturizer, not a foundation). I would definitely recommend this to someone who is just starting to wear make-up, or if you are at school and don’t want your face to be covered in foundation then this is a great alternative – I wish I had had this option when I was at school.

Have you tried this product? What BB creams would you recommend?
