Book Review: I Heart New York by Lindsey Kelk

It had me at New York.

I always assume I am going to love any book with those two words in the title – and this one doesn’t disappoint!

Angela Clark is a 26 year old Londoner who finds out her fiance has been cheating on her – on the day of her best friend’s wedding. If that wasn’t awful enough, she also discovers that her best friend and her new hubby have both known about this secret for a while. Now if you were Angela, what would you do? Break down and cry? Slap that cheating scumbag and so-called best friend (not that I condone violence of any kind)? Both? Well, Angela likes to go one better than that – she runs away to New York (…after ruining her best friend’s wedding, of course).

Now, there aren’t many women who would hop on a plane with only the clothes on their back and a pair of £400 Louboutin heels (although the shoes do make it a bit more classy, don’t you think?). With her new New York BFF Jenny in tow, Angela enters into a whole new world of dating, and with a new job she also gets to blog about her adventures every step of the way.

As well as being a story about love and heartbreak, it is also about the magic of the Big Apple – oh, the city that never sleeps! After falling for two gorgeous men, Angela also falls in love with New York, and finds that by breaking a few dating ‘rules’ it is possible to change your life for the better. As they say, ‘when in Rome’…or, er New York…

This is a great book to sink your teeth into, even if you don’t have much time on your hands – with approximately only 200 pages, it is an easy read and a real page-turner (I got to one of the last chapters and then found I couldn’t sleep without finishing the book!). And behind every good book is a great author. Lindsey Kelk makes you feel as though you have known the characters for years, and I formed quite an attachment to Angela’s character in particular. In fact, as soon as I finished the book I wanted to know what happened next! 

Whether you are going through a break up, whether you have been cheated on or if you are just a sucker for romance, this book has been written for any literature lover and I dare you to take a read of this brilliant story. This is definatly a modern day Bridget Jones tale for Twenty-something women who enjoy a good chick flick – and if you are anything like me, then you will feel slightly empowered after reading this book.

Perhaps a spontaneous trip to New York is on the cards 😉
